Galactic Ritual: A Hip-Hop Theatre Experience

Galactic Ritual: A Hip-Hop Theatre Experience is inspired by the tradition of ancient Afrikan theatre and the Black Arts Movement. Theatre, video, Afro-modern dance, visual art, beats, rhymes, dee-jaying and b-boying are used to take the audience members on a ritualistic and galactic journey with SA-ROC the MC and dee-jay/producer, SOL MESSIAH (Dead Prez, Nappy Roots, Jay Z, Talib Kweli).

A product of Afrikan-centered parents, SA-ROC developed a rebel mentality from an early age while being exposed to Jimi Hendrix, Gil Scott Heron, Earth, Wind & Fire, Go-Go, Rock, Hip-Hop and much more. Her aural quest for different sounds and concepts in music is seamlessly fused with multiple artistic disciplines in this exciting new show and topped off with delicious vegan cuisine. Directed by Bashi Rose, Zakee Parker, and Rosiland Cauthen. Video Projection/VJ design by Tewodross Melchishua. Produced by Nommo Theatre and Community African Ancestral Theatre Sources (CAATS).

Adults: $25 Children 12 and under $15 at door.

Date: 2/27 @ Mead Theatre Lab At Flashpoint 916 G Street N.W. Washington, DC 20001

m3

M3: MC’s, Mics & Metaphors explores the creative power of the lyricism, and poetry of hip-hop through visual imagery. The exhibition attempts to do so by gathering a group of emerging artists from around the country, and asking each to respond to the theme of the MC, or simply a favorite hip-hop verse or song. The focus is to visualize the creativity that has shaped this art form and culture, and specifically the words, lyrics, metaphors, similes, and other creative (language) vernacular used by MC’s. Featured in the exhibition are visual artists who work across a variety of media, such as photography, mixed media, painting, fashion, design, installation, new media, video art and animation.
